The new feature of Video call was first spotted by Android Police and the recent beta version of has made this video calling accessible for some particular Beta program users. Along with a number of improvements and new features, WhatsApp is also reported to test a new video calling feature.

As per the reports, the new functionality of video chat seems to be accessible on several beta versions and users having WhatsApp of v2.16.316 or more can make video calls.  As reported by Android Police, users can access into video call feature through the calls tab option. For making a video call, WhatsApp users need to click on the dialler icon located alongside the search icon.

By tapping on the dialler icon, WhatsApp will facilitate the users with two options – to either make a voice call over WhatsApp network or make a video call. As the new version and feature are on Beta Testing Stage, the facility can only be enjoyed only when the caller and the recipient are enrolled as the member of WhatsApp’s Android beta testing program. If the Beta testers are using the old version of WhatsApp on Android, the screen will prompt a message which reads “Couldn’t place call” followed by text, “Couldn’t place call. Recipient [name of contact being called] needs to update WhatsApp to receive video calls.”

Since now, WhatsApp hasn’t yet declared any particular details for the release date and Android users are waiting eagerly to grab the new video calling feature. In May this year, the video calling feature was rumoured to be launched on WhatsApp’s messaging platform. But for any unknown reasons, WhatsApp postponed it to October.
