WhatsApp by Facebook locks out users for using third party apps

WhatsApp Inc. has started banning the users for using an unofficial app called as WhatsApp Plus. The app that is indistinct in nature has a blue logo and provides the same functionality as the WhatsApp. However, it is from an unofficial source, and WhatsApp is calling it a threat to its user data.

WhatsApp Plus, an unofficial app, allowed the user to personalize the conversations even more. The app simply states that this application is only intended to customize even more aspects of the popular messaging app. However, WhatsApp has stopped its users from accessing the ‘Plus’ over data fears.

WhatsApp by Facebook notified this issue with a statement on its website saying, “contains source code which WhatsApp cannot guarantee as safe and that your private information is potentially being passed to third parties without your knowledge or authorization.”

WhatsApp Plus Developer, Dr. Mounib Al Rifal, received a cease letter from the company and has removed all the possible links to download the app. He stated, “We have received a cease and desist letter from WhatsApp and we are obliged to remove all download links and unfortunately delete this community…Am really sorry for this but it’s out of our hands and WhatsApp has pushed us into a corner that we can’t escape this time…It was a fun ride but has come to an end.”

WhatsApp allows one to send messages over the Internet for free, with millions of users worldwide. The company was acquired by the social networking giant, Facebook, for nearly $19 Bn.

WhatsApp is probably the best way to cut your messaging charges, however, a few reports suggest that the Facebook is using it to analyze the users’ chats to target them with more precise and accurate advertisements. Facebook has definitely grown into a marketplace for advertisers from a social networking website.
