The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is an American fantasy romantic film written and directed by David Fincher in 2008. Development of the movie The Strange Case of Benjamin Button:

Producer Ray Stark purchased the film rights to The Strange Case of Benjamin Button in the mid-1980s and was picked by Universal Pictures. The first decision to make this possible was Frank Oz, with Martin Short added to the title role, but Oz couldn’t figure out how to make the plot work. The film was chosen by Steven Spielberg in 1991, with Tom Cruise mostly on lead, but Spielberg left the project to manage Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List.

Other directors are Patrick Read Johnson and Agnieszka Holland. Stark ultimately sold the team to producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, who moved the film to Paramount Pictures, through Universal remained a co-producer. By the summer of 1994, Chief Jack Gerbes of the Maryland Film Office had been contacted with the idea of producing a film in Baltimore.

The Curiosity Case of Benjamin Button was initially scheduled to be released in May 2008 but was moved back to November 26, 2008. The launch date has been relocated to 25 December in the United States, 16 January 2009 in Mexico, 6 February in the United Kingdom, 13 February in Italy, and 27 February in South Africa.
