Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking died on March 14, 2018, at his home in Cambridge at the age of 76 Years. He was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease at the age of 21 and was given a life expectancy of 2 to 3 years but beating all odds, Hawking managed to stay alive for over five decades after the diagnosis. Hawking has made remarkable discoveries in the quantum physics and other co-related fields where he studied black holes and how they are formed, etc. Just 10 days before he died, he actually submitted the last revision of his paper “A Smooth Exit from Eternal Inflation?” along with Belgian theoretical physicist Thomas Hertog which prepared a mathematical groundwork for multiverse and also, how the universe will end soon.
According to the paper, the word ‘Inflation’ summoned in the title is in reference to the incredible expansion of space-time continuum that occurred just in a few moments after the Big Bang that created our universe. However, this paper was drafted with an assumption that there is not a single universe but an array of infinite universes that were formed after an array of Big Bangs that occurred simultaneously and spawned universes or multiverse an infinite number of times. Parallel Universe or Multiverse is one of the most important mysteries that scientists have been researching ever since it was coined by researcher James William in 1895.
According to the professor of cosmology at Durham University, England – Carlos Frenk, the result of inflation in the universe would be spawning of many universes or a multitude of universes, however, scientists haven’t been able to measure it until now. Current technology is to be blamed as it is still insufficient to detect the signals burst from another universe which is what makes this theory unproven yet mathematically and scientifically accurate.
Hawking stated in his paper that the multiverse must have a background radiation that our spaceships could detect using specialized tools. He also derives the mathematical calculations the spacecraft would need to get to the point where they can receive background radiation from the multiverse. He devised a plan to launch a spacecraft powerful enough to propel throughout the length of the universe and detect signals on background radiation and supposedly confirm the existence of a multiverse. Discovery of such a famous and twirling mystery could open up new possibilities and change our perception towards the cosmos. Stephen Hawking has been working on his theory of multiverse and how it must have spawned ever since he published in theory on ‘No boundary’ in 1983 with James Hartle which means, he has been working most of his adult life trying to express such mysterious phenomena.
In a previous paper, Stephen Hawking claimed that the Earth would turn into a giant ball of fire by 2600 after testing his theory on black holes and Einstein’s theory of relativity and suggested that humans should colonize another planet before it happens or face extinction.
