SpaceX planning to send a midnight cherry Tesla Roadster car to Mars in January

The year 2017 has witnessed much successful mission to space. A few days back, on 22nd December 2017, SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. It carries the Iridium-4 mission to orbit. This was the fourth set of 10 satellites in a series of 75 total satellites that SpaceX has launched for Iridium’s next-generation global satellite constellation. It was the 18th and final launch of 2017 for SpaceX. Well, from now, both SpaceX and NASA have started gearing up for the upcoming space mission. The year 2018 will witness some more exciting missions. As per the report, NASA will launch a new lander to Mars. Along with that, it will launch another rocket which will get closer to the sun. There is something more, something extraordinary. The renowned commercial space industry SpaceX will hold its first rocket launch in January. But the rocket will not carry any satellite to space.

SpaceX is planning to send a car to space. SpaceX’s Falcon heavy rocket this time will carry a midnight cherry Tesla Roadster car to the red planet- Mars. If it goes well, people may get to ride a vehicle in the space.  In 2011, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX had announced about the giant Falcon heavy rocket. To lift off the rocket, it has three reusable Falcon 9 rockets cores which are strapped together. SpaceX had planned to launch the Falcon heavy in 2013. But later Elon Musk informed that the engineering works of the rocket were much harder than other Falcon 9 rockets.

As per the report, this will be the heaviest launch vehicle of SpaceX. It can carry around 54 metric tons which is 119,000 lbs to space, and it can lift over twice as much weight that the ULA’s Delta IV Heavy carries.  SpaceX has been conducted the demonstration to check its ability to and the rocket on land and at sea.  SpaceX has informed that its first launch of the year 2018, will take place at Launch Complex 39A of SpaceX. It is located at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It is the launch pad from where the Apollo 11 was launched on 16th July 1969. It had carried the first man to t the Moon.

A few days ago, SpaceX released a photo of a rocket’s payload and the Tesla Roadster. The vehicle has been placed on a special adapter structure which is generally used while launching any satellite into the space.  The mega-rocket which is said to carry the car to Mars was spotted near a SpaceX hanger. Apart from that Both SpaceX and NASA is planning to carry out another space mission in which capsules to carry passengers to the space station, the Crew Dragon, and CST-100 Starliner. In April, SpaceX will do an uncrewed test flight of the Dragon capsule, followed by the first crewed flight test in August.

  • I admire and respect Mr. Musk, but wish the egoistic payload was offered to science even if this was a high risk flight. i.e. high school students/amateurs could have sent satellites to Mars etc.. with the targeted test weight in mind.
