Considering the stats, which suggest that every fifth Indian Internet users surfs in Hindi or a regional language, one of the most popular e-commerce websites, Sanpdeal announced that their online shopping platform will be available from Tuesday in Hindi and Telugu, apart from English. The company further revealed that from January 26, users will be able to access the retail store  in English and 11 regional languages, which includes Hindi, Telugu, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Assamese, and Punjabi

Commenting on the launch, Rohit Bansal, Co-Founder, Snapdeal said, “Customers are at the heart of everything we do and we are excited about using technology to make the experience more authentic for our users. India’s linguistic diversity is a huge opportunity to expand the market to include those users who would prefer to engage online in their native languages. ”

“We are sure this will enable millions of new users to join the digital commerce revolution that is sweeping across India. Snapdeal’s multi-lingual platform will redefine the rules of the game and will allow sellers and buyers from all across India to explore and transact without any constraints of language,” he further added.

“With this, Snapdeal has expanded its reach to an additional 130 million smartphone users in India, who use Internet in regional languages, thus making digital commerce now accessible to all,” Snapdeal said in a statement.

The multilingual user interface has been developed by the company on the basis of the feedback it received from both its buyers and sellers.

“The multilingual platform is built on top of Snaplite, Snapdeal’s website for mobile browsers, which is 85 percent lighter and consumes less bandwidth. This means that not only is it in the language of the regions, it also consumes 85 percent less bandwidth and loads in 1/4th the time of most other mobile sites,” the statement added.
