Shahid Kapoor and Kangna Ranaut won the top honors of IIFA 2015 Best Actor and Best Actress Awards respectively for their films “Haider” and “Queen”.
The event held in Kuala Lumpur, where National Award winning film “Queen” was the talk of the town. Vikas Behl’s directorial “Queen” succeeded to grab the Best Picture, Best Story and Best Performance in a Leading Role- female Award at the three days long 16th edition of International Indian Film Academy (IIFA). However, the director lost to grab the Award for Best Direction in front of PK director Rajkumar Hirani who took the trophy in his home.
Kangna Ranaut was not present on the occasion to collect the Best Actress Award; hence her director Vikas Behl received the Reward on her behalf. Hard to believe but Kangna Ranaut starrer defeated big budget films like “PK”, “Haider”, “Highway”, “2States” and “Mary Kom” for winning Best Picture Trophy.
The leading man of Haider Shaahid Kapoor performed in the IIFA ceremony hosted by Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor walked home with Best Actor Award. The chocolaty-boy had competition with strong actors like Shahrukh Khan (Happy New Year), Aamir Khan (PK) and Greek-God Hrithik Roshan (Bang Bang!).
Hrithik might have lost the Award to Shahid, but his “Bang Bang” performance woo many women including sizzling diva Deepika Padukone, who herself felicitated with Woman of the Year Award. She was nominated for Best Actress category but lost to Kangna Ranaut.
Ritesh Deshmukh won Best Actor Award in supporting Role for his film “Ek Villain” and Kay Kay Menon successfully received Best Actor Award in Negative Role for Haider, his co-star Tabu was able to fetch Best Actress in Supporting Role Award.There was a special Award organized by IIFA for Best Regional Film which went to Ritesh starrer Marathi film “Lai Bhaari” produced by her beautiful wife Genelia Deshmukh.
“Main Tera Hero” fame Varun Dhawan won Best Actor in Comic Role Award for his Casanova act in the film directed by his real life dad David Dhawan. David received the Award on his son’s behalf. The Best Music Director trophy went to eminent trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. “Heropanti” fame newcomer Tiger Shroff and Kirti Sanon both won crowned with Best Debutant Award.Tiger was delighted to receive Award from Hrithik Roshan whom the young star always idolizes, while, Kirti Sanon was also pleasured to have the Award from glamorous Anushka Sharma.
National Award Winning director Omung Kumar got Best Debutant Director Award for “Mary Kom” and he was joined by “Kick” director Sajid Nadiadwala who made his directorial debut with the film.
Showman of Bollywood Subhash Ghaai was awarded for Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema and he received it from his favorite heroes Anil Kapoor and Jacky Shroff.
Glam dolls like Sonakshi Sinha and Shraddha Kapoor clinched everyone’s attention in the function by their mind-blowing performance. Dabbang Girl Sonakshi Sinha performed on the popular song of the year “Jumme ki raat” from “Kick”, while, young starlet Shraddha Kapoor gave tribute to the Showman of Bollywood by performing dances in the songs of his films. She rocked the dance floor with the song of musical blockbuster “Taal”.
Bollywood biggies like Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar were missing from the ceremony but their songs were played at regular intervals. And last but not the least Megastar Amitabh Bachchan was there to glaze the occasion.
