Women, you may start being more active between the sheets as the latest research has found out that having sex at least once in every week helps in slowing down the ageing process in women.
Research experts from the University of California in San Francisco assessed levels of physical intimacy along with the conflict or support, overall satisfaction and stress in the relationship in 129 numbers of mothers in mostly long term relationships. For the research study, blood samples were obtained from the participants for the determination of the length of their telomere.
Previous research also made indications that a good and healthy sex life was very much important for good health.
The preliminary assessment found that females who reported of having good sex during any time of the week were found to have longer telomeres which are the end caps providing protection to our DNA. The stress, satisfaction and support or conflict of the partner had no effect on the length of the telomere.
Telomeres are the region of the repetitive sequence of a nucleotide at every end of a chromosome that protects the end of every chromosome from the fusion or deterioration with the chromosomes present nearby.
The lead researcher Tomas Cabeza de Baca stated that over a period, short telomeres might add on to the development of degenerative diseases which are chronic in nature and premature mortality.
“Sexual intimacy may lead in reducing the impacts of stress by low regulation of the response system of stress and high regulation of immune response. Over a period, such patterns of stress function should lead to the longer length of the telomere,” as reported by PsyPost.
The results were published in the Journal of Psychoneuroendocrinology.
