One of the most rumored and anticipated smartphones, Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models were announced in India at the stroke of midnight on 16 October. Before placing the handsets on sale, the pre-bookings had already given glimpses as it was sluggish than expected.
Meanwhile, reports coming from the company reveals that they have managed to sell around 50,000 units, as compared to last year’s quick weekend sale of the entire batch of 55,000 units, which were shipped to the Indian shores. The firm has stated in the report that it has delivered three times the number, this time, but it has missed the target, which was set for India.
However, Apple Inc. did manage to break some records overseas, as it has sold out around 13 million units of the iPhone 6s models in the first weekend over 12 markets, compared to the 10 million units sold over the availability weekend last year across 10 countries. The reason behind the sluggish sales in India is likely to be the high prices as compared with the other markets around the globe.
The Price range for the devices starts from Rs. 62,000, which is tagged for the lowest storage variant, 16GB of iPhone 6s, meanwhile, consumers can purchase the other variants including iPhone 6s with 64GB and 128GB of storage at a price of Rs. 72,000 and Rs. 82,000, respectively. Also, the iPhone 6s Plus comes in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB of storage options at a price of Rs. 72,000, Rs. 82000 and Rs. 92,000, respectively.
The new models from Apple were worldwide launched on September 25, across the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore. The company has priced the iPhone 6s at $649 (~Rs.42,235) in US. While, it is being priced at $1,048 (~ Rs 48,295) in Singapore.
On specs front, the iPhone 6S is fronted with a 4.7-inch 1334X750 pixel Retina display, meanwhile, its sibling features a 5.5-inch 1920X1080 pixel Retina display. Both of the handsets are 0.2 mm thicker than the last generation iPhones, as the iPhone 6S measures 7.3mm and iPhone 6S Plus measures 7.1mm, in thickness.
The latest generation of iPhone is powered by an Apple A9 chipset, paired with an M9 co-processor. The company claims that A9 offers a 70% speed bump with CPU heavy tasks and a 90% speed bump in GPU intensive tasks as compared to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus phones which sported the A8 chipset. The new phones will be running on iOS 9 operating system.
The highlighting feature of the handsets is their 3D Touch display that makes them remarkable and unique from those which are currently available in the market. However, the display makes the iPhone 6S Plus, 20 grams heavier at 192 grams, and iPhone 6S, 14 grams heavier at 143 grams as compared to its predecessors.
On the connectivity front, the smartphones come with LTE-Advanced, 802.11ac Wifi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Wi-fi calling, GPS and GLONASS. Other features such as TouchID has become two times faster and supports Apple Pay.
It is expected from the company to offer some discounts to compensate the sluggish sales, targeting this Diwali.
