According to Digvijay Singh, General Secretary of Congress, Sonia Gandhi should have to inherit the powers in the young hands of Rahul Gandhi.

“It’s a general feeling of Congress workers that Congress has always encouraged younger people to lead the party. Therefore, now I think the time has come when Rahul Gandhi should take charge,” he says. However, the party to stop these controversies said that these are his “personal opinions.”

In addition to it, abilities to lead the party and about the loss that party suffered in Lok Sabha and assembly elections, one should take in notice the wins between 2004 and 2014. “Please revisit my statement. I had said Rahul Gandhi does not hanker after power unlike Mr. Modi who cannot live and breathe without power,” Singh added.

Senior party leaders including Ahmed Patel, AK Antony, P Chidambaram, Ambika Soni, Ashok Gehlot, Veerappa Moily, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Oscar Fernandes and Mukul Wasnik other than Singh had discussions for the same, with Rahul in the last few weeks.

Party spokesperson Anand Sharma said, “Whatever Digvijay Singh has said is his personal view. The Congress party has always taken collective view when it comes to strengthening of the organization or in the interest of the country.”

Being sceptical on Rahul being in party’s top leadership, Singh said, “Once he takes charge, he may do that. It is up to him.”. “After taking charge, Rahul should immediately re-assess the socio-economic policy of congress,” Singh said, adding “he must also focus on holding a transparent drive for party membership, and organisational elections by putting an end to bogus practices.”
