According to the researchers Kay-Tee Khaw and Professor Nita Forouhi, who are from the University of Cambridge, if you consume coconut oil for just one month regularly then it can reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease. For the study, researchers examined 94 participants who were aged between 50 to 75. These participants did not have family background with any heart disease or diabetes.
The researchers divided the participants into three groups, and each group was asked to consume 50 grams of one of three oils and those are coconut oil, unsalted butter or the extra virgin olive oil. The study aimed to find out how these three fats affect the cholesterol level of participants.
Moreover, the study revealed that group who consumed the olive oil witnessed a slight decline in LDL levels plus a five percent addition in HDL cholesterol levels which is known as the good cholesterol. Whereas the coconut oil consumer group saw an average of 15 percent rise in HDL levels which was the highest among all three oils. However, the group who consumed unsalted butter has seen the medium rise of 10 percent in levels of LDL cholesterol which is known as the bad cholesterol.
