Pakistan to release Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Pak Punjab objects by filing petition

Another incidence of shame for the Pakistan Government and a matter of insult for the Indian as Pakistan has decided to release Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. However, Punjab saved the country’s pride by making a petition in the Supreme Court against this judgement of the Lahore High Court.

26/11 2008 Mumbai terror attacks accused, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi’s release was today challenged by Pakistan’s Punjab Government. Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi is said to be the mastermind in Mumbai Terror attacks and Laskar-e-Taiba’s operation commander. The Punjab’s Government has challenged this decision of Lahore High Court, saying that this release has created problems for Punjab.

The Petition is filed by the Punjab Home Department, and it also says that there were enough proofs against the suspect but Justice Anwarul Haq ordered his release on 10 April ignoring all the proofs and evidences. This was a very sensitive document, but simply to maintain Law and order the LHC ordered to release Lakhvi.

The Punjab Government also said that previously the court ordered the arrest of Lakhvi on the basis of “sensitive information” provided by the PAK intelligence agencies. The govt. is also asking for the reason why that information was enough to arrest Lakhavi then and is now not even enough to keep him behind the bars.

LHC had ordered his immediate release when Lakhvi on 14 March challenged his fourth one-month detention ordered by the Okara DCO.

Detailed evidences and proofs have also been submitted by New Delhi against the culprits. However, it’s a matter of shame for Pakistan that there is so heavy corruption that they are not even able to Prosecute the culprits.

Strong comments have been made by international communities, especially India, against LHC’s this decision, saying this to be an “extremely disappointing development.” The countries also asked Islamabad to immediately take strict actions to ensure Lakhvi does not come out of jail.
