Reliance Jio SIM

With the launch of Jio in India, the Internet and telecom sector of the country has been revolutionised exponentially. As a part of the competition, calling and data prices have been fallen down. Besides, services offered by telcos these days are far improved as compared to the last year. Jio itself has shown a 49 percent of the growth in Internet speed since its launch.

In a report by London-based research firm Open Signal, it has been stated that when compared to the average Internet speed of the Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio at the time of its launch and today, there has been around 1.5 times increase. The research firm also added that this increase is visible after the closing of company’s free offerings on March 31.

The report, released on Thursday, has been prepared after analysing more than seven billion measurements collected from 700K+ smartphones and tablets around the country. It noted that the average Internet speed of Jio has gained a hike from 3.9 Mbps to 5.8 Mbps. The reason behind the growth is maybe restricting the usages which decreased the unwanted traffic over the network.

On the other hand, the Open Signal research also claimed that the rivalries to Jio like Bharti Airtel Ltd, Idea Cellular Ltd and Vodafone India Ltd showed a significant drop in speed in the last six months.

“We measured the biggest decline in 4G speed on Airtel, falling from 11.5 Mbps to 9.1 Mbps. Meanwhile, Idea and Vodafone’s average 4G speed test fell by about a megabit each in our most recent test period,” the firm said.

The reason for the decline in inversely same. Previously, the Airtel, Vodafone and Idea users weren’t using that much of data which is being used today. To stay in the competition, these telcos had reduced their data prices which increased the Internet users and hence, congestion.

Still, Airtel, after getting a decline in average download speed, ranks at the top for both 3G and 4G network with an average speed of 9.1 Mbps and 3.6 Mbps respectively. Meanwhile, Vodafone and Idea remains at 2nd position with a bandwidth of 7.4 Mbps on 4G network. And despite having exponential increase, Jio secured 3rd position.

Earlier, Ookla in a report showed that the 4G Internet users have been increased exponentially in India. In a graphical representation, Ookla showed a continuous increase in 4G speed tests in first nine months of 2016. These tests are conducted across all the networks providing 4G services.

Last year, the mean download speed has fallen from 11.31 Mbps to 8.77 Mbps. However, it doesn’t mean that all of the users are getting Internet speed around 8.77 Mbps. Ookla has specifically clear that some of the users are getting speeds around 25-30 Mbps, meanwhile, some of them are having as low as 0.5 Mbps. But when the Reliance Jio will provide its promised Internet speed is still a mystery.
