Redmi Note 2 - The TeCake

Exponentially growing, China-based smartphone making company, Xiaomi has launched two of its new handsets, Redmi Note 2 Prime and Redmi Note 2, meanwhile, it has also rolled out a firmware update, MIUI 7 for the existing and new smartphones as well. The announcement was made in an launching event held on Thursday in the company’s home country.

In addition, the firm reported that the Indian build of the devices and the OS will be unveiled on August 19 in New Delhi. It will also introduce in other countries, on the same day.

Redmi Note 2

The all new Redmi Note 2 from Xiaomi will be available in two variants, as 4G, which supports TDD-LTE + TD-SCDMA and a 3G variant with TDD-LTE + FDD-LTE, at a price of CNY 799 (around Rs 8000) and CNY 899 (approx Rs 9000), respectively.

Apart this both of the variants are featured with a 5.5-inch full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels 400 ppi display with a 5 megapixel of user-facing OmniVision camera placed above it. Meanwhile, for primary photography solution the manufacturer has bundled the handset with a 13 megapixel of rear camera, which features an LED flash for supporting low-light photography, and phase detection autofocus (PDAF) for a 0.1s focus speed.

The Redmi Note 2 handset, running on MIUI 7 is backed by a 2.0 GHz octa core MediaTek Helio X10 chipset that is coupled with a 2 GB of RAM. It comes with 16 GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot with support of up to 32 GB. The smartphone is fueled with a 3060 mAh of battery.

As far connectivity is concerned the Redmi Note 2 includes Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Micro-USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and infrared, meant for universal remote control of compatible appliances. In addition, the onboard sensors list include an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and a digital compass (magnetometer).

Redmi Note 2 Prime

The Redmi Note 2 Prime is an extended version of Redmi Note 2 smartphone, which is valued at CNY 999 (about Rs 10000). The 4G handset that supports TDD-LTE + FDD-LTE, differs from the Redmi Note 2 in the processor’s clock speed as it boasts a 2.2 GHz octa core MediaTek Helio X10 processor. Additionally, the former has 16GB of internal storage while the latter has 32GB.

Besides this, both of the handsets features an infrared blaster which allows it to be used as a remote control for gadgets like TVs and ACs.


The MIUI 7 is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, which is developed and designed by ‘750-strong R&D team’. After updating the device to MIUI7 the users will get five colorful themes including a ‘Goddess’ theme, which is especially meant for women.

The main feature of the UI allows the smartphone to categories the pictures on the basis of people, as it sports face recognition in the gallery, which automatically sorts and categorise the images according to people’s faces.

The company revealed that it is an OTA update, however, to check it manually users can visit Settings > System updates from their handsets. It is being rolled out to Xiaomi Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 2A, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, and the Redmi Note.

The Chinese built comes with Mi Roaming app pre-installed, which enables the users to use the smartphone with a virtual SIM while traveling.
