The popular smartphone maker, OnePlus which is known for breaking the ice every year with it s high-performance device, has announced that its latest handset OnePlus 5 will be now available at 10 percent discount to students.
In a video published on the official YouTube channel, the company claimed that its flagship smartphone of this year touted as ‘Perfect Smartphone’ will be available at a discount of 10 percent to the students.
What’s the catch?
However, that’s not all. It is not that much easy to get the discount. Being a student is not enough to grab the handset at the lowered price. OnePlus said on in an official blog post, “Through 3 short assignments, we will test your ability to enjoy exclusive student offers and examine your eligibility for our program. Completing this exam will give students a can’t-miss opportunity to acquire the OnePlus 5 at low rate exclusive to students.”
The sad part here is that the program is not available in India. It seems the company is being ignorant here as India is a big smartphone market or it might be a strategy for not allowing Indian students to participate (as most of them are brilliant 🙂 ). The offer currently is only available in countries like UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Poland, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, USA, and Canada.
How to avail the offer
The students in the specified countries who want to avail the offer, have to show their student identity proofs by signing up to Student Beans. After verifying the account and gaining access to the Student Program, the participant will be eligible.
In case one doesn’t have an account, one can visit OnePlus Student Program website, and click on “Login to Student Beans”, click on “REGISTER” icon and enter the details.
The point here that the company has to understand is that generally in India most of the parents don’t allow a student to purchase a smartphone having a price tag in 30K INR range. So, with the offering of such discounts, it doesn’t look like it will have a significant impact on sales.
OnePlus was initially sprouted with as a flagship killer smartphone maker, with a REASONABLE PRICE. Though the company is launching high-end smartphones in the market every year, it is hiking its prices by each launch. In our opinion, the manufacturer needs to reduce the prices of the handset rather announcing lucrative offers. What do you think about that? Please let us know in the comment section below.
