In a surprising twist of events, Roy starring Ranbir has managed to beat the opening day collection of Aamir Khan’s PK. PK’s opening day collection was around Rs. 1.05 crore, and Roy managed to bag Rs.1.25 crore on the very first day of its release. Till Tuesday, a total collection of Rs. 36.09 crore has been made.
In Pakistan also, it received a good response with over 3000 people gathering in the Cineplex theater to watch the film, even though the World Cup season has hit the stalls.
Although after 16th February, Roy saw a fall in the earning figures which could have been a result of critics’ negative reviews. Roy had been anticipated as the film of the year because of the trailer releases, storyline and songs popularity, but since it couldn’t run up to the expectations, it has now been seen as a disappointment.
Roy is a romantic thriller featuring the story of a thief and a story writer with Jacqueline Fernandez as the muse for Arjun. Both stories are going around in parallel universes. The disappointment was due to bad scripting, although the acting was good.
On the very same day, MSG: The Messenger was also released and made around about six crores in two days. The surprising thing is that, even though, this movie got the worst reviews any film could get and even was questioned that was it a film or a “Baba’s pravachan”, the film is getting great audience feedback, especially nearby northern circuits.
Both films have been able to make it to an excellent opening collection despite critics’ reviews and the World Cup going around. Still, if Roy don’t start making better collections nationwide, it might be registered as one of the disaster films of 2015.
