Mary Kom fame Omung Kumar announced his new film which is also a biopic. The director is making a biopic on “Sarbjit” who was convicted by Pakistan for alleged charge of terrorism and spying. Last year, he died at the jail in Pakistan. Reportedly, the former beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan roped to play the role of Dalbir Kaur, Sarbjit’s sister who battled for the freedom of her brother.
Dalbir Singh tried her best to save his brother, Sarabjit, who spent 23 years of his life in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, he was given capital punishment but the sentence was not implemented, and got killed by his inmates over an issue.
According to the script, in 1990 while farming Sarbjit Singh, a farmer from Bhikiwind in Punjab (on the Indo-Pakistan border), crossed over to Pakistan after having a couple of drinks. He was mistakenly considered as an Indian spy and was given capital punishment but was not hanged.
The film will focus about Dalbir’s battle and unsuccessful attempt to bring her brother back alive. This Heart wrenching true story will be telecast on the silver screen. The sources added that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has given her nod to play the role of Dalbir. She is best suited to play the role for her immense talent.
Omung Kumar who created his own niche after Mary Kom, naturally will show Dalbir Kaur’s struggle on big screen in a flawless manner. As per report, “Sarbjit Singh’s film” was earlier supposed to be directed by Hansal Mehta.
When the filmmaker was asked about his next “Sarbjit” biopic after Mary Kom, which won the prestigious National Award he says, “I will be directing and co-producing Sarabjit. Even though I have three scripts lined up, this will be my next film after Mary Kom”. The biopic director is also the recipient of prestigious Dada Sahab Phalke Award.
