New Raspberry Pi 2 $35 model to run on Microsoft Windows 10

According to a recent announcement made on the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s website, the foundation has unveiled yet another addition to the Raspberry Pi low-cost computer family. Announcing Raspberry Pi 2, the foundation is releasing a model that is almost six times faster than the former.

There are primarily two considerable factors, first being the memory that has been bumped from 512MB to 1GB and second is the price which is still $35 (INR 2,200). The foundation has done enough to retain the title of “$35 low-cost credit size computer”.

Going deep with the technical details, Raspberry Pi 2 offers a new Broadcom BCM2836 4x ARMv6 Core, which is equipped with four Cortex A-7 cores, clocked at 900Mhz. It has same old GPU Videocore IV, however, the power consumption has increased from 600mA – 5V to 800mA – 5V.

One more interesting thing to note here is that the processor and the memory unit have been put separately. Earlier, both the units were packed in the same wafer and were placed on the board. In Raspberry Pi 2, the memory unit can be found soldered on the lower side of the board, just beneath the processor. It also involves a 40-pin expansion header to connect a number of peripherals and modules, it supports boot from a microSD card and weighs just under the 50gm.

Eben Upton, Raspberry Pi Founder and CEO, also announced that they are working on to bring the Windows 10 on the Raspberry Pi platform. He said, “For the last six months we’ve been working closely with Microsoft to bring the forthcoming Windows 10 to Raspberry Pi 2. Microsoft will have much more to share over the coming months. The Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of Windows 10 will be available free of charge to makers”

The addition of Windows 10 as an Raspberry Pi operating system will help the foundation in meeting its goals much faster. Use of Raspberry Pi along with the Windows 10 will help people living in remote areas to gain a better understanding of the computers.
