NASA warns 1000 asteroids hurling towards Earth and might collide in next five years

Scientists at the American space agency NASA has warned that over 1000 asteroids might hit earth in next five years. These asteroids have potential to wipe out all the life form on Earth as they did millions of years back when they wiped out dinosaurs from our planet.

Recently, NASA scientists have identified number of near-Earth asteroids that might crash into Earth at a speed of 60,000 miles per hour which is similar to the explosion of a very large nuclear bomb. Scientists estimate that they will discover many more near-earth asteroids in future.

In order to avoid any future collision, NASA has asked help from other space agencies. The US space agency has also sent a robotic probe just to destroy some of the objects moving in the vicinity of the earth or deviate their path so as to prevent any collision.

Several objects and space junk are orbitting Earth and NASA keeps track of several objects that are pottential threat to us. Every year, scientists are finding 1500 more NEOs (Near Earth Objects) which is making it difficult for researchers to keep track of all the objects. It is common for scientists to lose the track of object and in some cases researchers are able regain the track of the object.

“Nasa knows of no asteroid or comet currently on a collision course with Earth, so the probability of a major collision is quite small. In fact, as best as we can tell, no large object is likely to strike the Earth any time in the next several hundred years,” said a Nasa spokesperson. “NASA has also made asteroid detection a top priority, and are developing strategies for identifying asteroids that could pose a risk to our planet.”

However, we should not underestimate the smaller objects as they might cause severe damage to humanity.
