The Jio fever is not over yet as the expiry date of Jio Welcome Offer is coming closer, the Reliance Industries Limited’s Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has addressed its employees and company’s stake holders about an event at which he will deliver a speech today and make some Jio related announcements. The event will broadcast live at 01:30PM on the company’s social media channels including the YouTube channels Flame Of Truth and Jio Digital Life.
As earlier rumoured, it is expected that Ambani will extend the existing Jio Welcome Offer till March 31, 2017. However, TRAI order had said that Jio will have to end the the free offerings by December 4. After getting orderes from TRAI a Jio spokesperson said that the free offerings under the Welcome Offer will be available till December 31 for the existing users. Those who still aren’t using the the free voice calling and data benefits of Jio can purchase the Jio SIM by Saturday, but the customers purchasing the supscription after December 3 won’t be able get those benefits.
Since its launch, in the duration of 83 days Reliance Jio has managed to get 50 million users, and the firm is targetting to get 100 million of them.
Last to last month, the popular speed testing app Ookla has released a report which revealed that the 4G Internet users has been increased exponentially in India which results in an increase in Internet speed search on 4G networks. The report also showed that the Jio speed has been abruptly fallen down as it was earlier. Hence, it seems that charging for such a poor service won’t work for Jio, so it might extend its free services for next three months.
According to the data, speeds for “4G capable phones actually decreased 23% month-over-month from 11.31 Mbps to 8.77 Mbps, continuing a downward trend for 2016.” The report also adds that Reliance Jio’s claims of 135Mbps as average speed across the board are still a dream, and that even the “top 10% of tests averaged out at 17.77 Mbps in September.”
The fact that 4G Internet uses has increased in India is also supported by a report by IDC which claims that the 4G smartphone shipments across India has increased with the Jio’s entry.
It is also rumoured that Jio is testing its Jio Fiber in some areas of India, which is speculated to offer high-speed boradband Internet with a promising speed of 1GBps. It is not the least, the company is also planning to offer DTH services with the platform, apart from the broadband Internt. The Jio DTH services will include television channels, movies, and games, all bundled together.
Besides, the Jio Fiber and extending the Welcome Offer, Mukesh Ambani might launch the world’s cheapest 4G LTE feature phone, Lyf Easy 4G in India, which will be priced below Rs. 1500. The primary objective to launch the feature phone is to offer an affordable device so that users can make free voice calls from the network.
In addition, the other announcement could be payments bank. Considering the demonetisation in India, it is expected that Ambani may promote its Jio Money facility in today’s event. The Jio money was already launched earlier but never promoted this as a wallet.
There is no official confirmation from Reliance Industries Limited about the announcement to be made today, but no doubt the Jio side of the story will be closely watched from all quarters.
