Mohan Bhagwat defames Mother Teresa, Kejriwal in defence

On Monday, Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, passed a comment on Mother Teresa, devaluing her work and calling her a person who helped others on the condition that they changed religions.

This spiked many controversies and Kejriwal has been added to the list of people, against these words along with Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sachin Pilot, Trinamool spokesperson Derek O’Brien and General Secretary of the Indian National Congress party Digvijaya Singh.

“I worked wid Mother Teresa for a few months at Nirmal Hriday ashram in Kolkata. She was a noble soul. Pl spare her.” Kejriwal tweeted. He said that Mother Teresa’s work shouldn’t be devalued like this.

Mohan Bhagwat during the inauguration of an orphanage and a woman’s home in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, said that in this place, they will selflessly provide service to others, unlike Mother Teresa who used to serve the poor under the sub-context of converting them to Christianity.

Although, equally there have been others who are supporting Bhagwat. For instance, BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi said that Mohan Bhagwat is not the only person condemning Mother Teresa’s work, for she herself admitted that she wanted people to convert to Christianity.

“And kindly read Navin Chawla’s book, who was an old Congress loyalist, on Mother Teresa, where Mother Teresa herself during an interview says that ‘a lot of people confuse me as social worker, I am not a social worker. I am in the service of Jesus and my job is to spread the word of Christianity and bring people to its fold’,” Lekhi added.

In a country where the Prime Minister is making promises on bringing religion freedom, talks like these only mar his work and make the country divided. Mother Teresa has had enough of controversies in her lifetime and now at least in death she deserves some respect.
