Audi India has recently launched its 2nd generation SUV – the Q5 starting at a price of Rs 53.25 lakh. First unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2016, the 2nd Gen Q5 makes its way to the Indian market almost after a year and seems confident of its survival.
The all-new SUV is feature packed and loaded with all the necessities you could expect from the German Automobile Manufacturer. The car will be imported in parts as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits, and being a Volkswagen subsidiary, will get assembled in the Aurangabad plant, before being put on sale in showrooms.
“The year 2018 will be the year of progression and the launch of the new Audi Q5 is the perfect example of this. The first Audi Q5 was for many years the world’s best-selling model in its class, and with the new Q5 we are setting the bar a notch higher,” says Mr Rahil Ansari, Head, Audi India. He further went on to explain how a lighter body, a whole new design language, along with new infotainment and a host of new innovative features will make new Audi Q5 the ruler and the best choice for customers, whether on or off the road.
The second-gen Audi Q5 is based on the flexible MLB Evo platform and mimics the design of it’s more significant sibling, The Audi Q7. The new model of the SUV weighs substantial 65 Kg lesser than its predecessor with a kerb weight of 1,990 Kg making it the lightest bodied SUV in its class, though it has larger dimensions sporting a longer wheelbase which is 2,819 mm and stands taller than the previous model at 1,659 mm. The overall dimension measures of the Audi Q5 stands at 4,663 mm in length and is 1,893 mm wide.
On the exterior, the Audi Q5 sports a single-frame chrome grille flanked by Matrix LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and a sporty bonnet going in sync with Audi’s current design strategy. On the side profile, the new Q5 looks almost identical to its predecessor. However, at rear end it features sporty wraparound LED taillights with dynamic turn indicators, a roof-mounted spoiler and a newly designed bumper which now adorns a silver scuff plate and integrated twin-chrome exhaust pipes.
The interiors of the SUV features redesigned 8.3-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system in the dual-tone dashboard, which gets advanced smartphone integration, voice command recognition, 10 GB internal space for media storage, onboard navigation among others. It works on updated Audi MMI system, coupled with Bang and Olufsen 3D surround sound system for an out of the world experience. The other anticipated features include three-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, leather upholstery and electrically adjustable leather seats.
The signature Audi Virtual Cockpit – a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster adds to the contemporarily designed interiors, in addition to an ergonomically designed three-spoke, multi-functional steering wheel with chrome trim. The 5-link suspension setup with adaptive dampers and 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels adds to the feather-like ride quality of the SUV. Awarded a Euro NCAP rating of 5 stars, the Q5 comes equipped with safety features like eight airbags, ABS, EBD, electronic stability control (ESC) among others.
Under the hood, it exquisitely conceals a 1,968 cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 188 BHP of maximum power at 3,800-4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 400 Nm at 1,750-3,000 rpm. The beast of an engine is mated to a 7-speed S Tronic automatic transmission and Audi’s exclusive Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The addition of a new Off-road driving mode to the existing four modes – Comfort, Dynamic, Auto and Individual, makes it even more fun behind the wheel. The SUV does 0-100 km/h runs in under 8 seconds and tops at a speed of 218 km/h.
