Lenovo leaves Micromax behind for the second rank, Samsung is still the emperor: IDC

Lenovo to snatch the second rank in Q2 next to market share IDC

IDC (International Data Corporation) recently announced the smartphone shipment reports for the Quarter 3 of 2016, according to which the Chinese Smartphone maker Lenovo left Indian-origin Micromax in the consignment race and became the second biggest smartphone maker of the country. Since past couple of years, home-bred Micromax managed to acquire the runners-up position following Samsung, but this year, Lenovo with the help of Motorola successfully thrust it to the third rank by grabbing second place.

As per the reports of IDC, the South Korean Giant, Samsung, like previous years is going on with the leading position. In the Quarter 3 of 2016, Samsung managed to gain a healthy market share of 23%, which is 13.4% more than its closest rival Lenovo. Similarly, Lenovo also witnessed 46.1% growth in smartphone shipments in contrast to the previous quarter. The delivery of the newly launched Moto E3 Power, G4 models and the Lenovo K5 series accounted for 40% of its total value, IDC reports.

On the other hand, the Chinese multinational, Xiaomi, for the first time has found its way to the Top 5 lead smartphone makers. With the boosting shipment of its rich-featured Redmi 3S series and Redmi Note 3 smartphones, Xiaomi managed to get 2.5 times more market share than the same period of 2015. I the Q3 2016, Xiaomi holds 7.4% market share, which is only 0.5 less than the proportion of Micromax.

Moreover, Reliance Jio which was introduced with the LYF series smartphone grabbed 7% market share in quarter three if 2016. As far as the overall smartphone and feature phones shipments are concerned, Samsung with 23.2 percent market share is leading the chart, while the Chinese manufacturer Lava with 9.8 percent and Intex with 9.8 percent are following it.

Market Research Company, International Data Corporation (IDC) on Tuesday published the reports of mobile shipments for the third quarter concluded in September 2016. As per IDC, in the CY Q3 2016, Indian market created a new benchmark by crossing the milestone of 30 million unit mobile shipments, which eventually facilitated it with 11 percent year-on-year development.
