Launch of Kwid inflates Renault sales to a different level

Renault India sold 1, 11,387 units of its vehicles during the period of January 2016 to October 2016. 35,786 units were sold during the same period in 2015 delivering a growth of 211.7 percent. The launch of the Kwid has helped Renault to strengthen its position in the current Indian market. Sumit Sawhney, country CEO and MD of Renault India said in September that from January 2016 to August 2016 they had sold 87,000 cars out of which 65,000 units are Kwid and they have a hope this year’s sales will cross 1 lakh.

The Renault Kwid AMT was first shown at the Auto Expo this year, with a 5 speed Easy-R gearshift. The similar transmission is seen in the Duster SUV but Kwid takes the striking demand as instead of the usual gear lever, customers will get a knob on the centre console which lets to switch between three models: Neutral, Drive and Reverse. It has another crawl function that will move the car at a very slow speed without any throttle input which makes the driving safe.

Kwid was launched in September 2015 and have touched remarkable sales every month. Renault India sold 10,719 unit of the Kwid in August and its average sale is around 9,000 units monthly. Till now it have a booking of 1.65 lakh. So far the company has sold over 80,000 units of Kwid and expected to touch 1 lakh sales soon. The new model has a 1.0-litre engine which generates about 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. Inside it will get 7-inch MEDIANAV touch screen display, front power windows, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation and remote central locking. The Auto Expo Model has dual airbags and ABS.

Renault will try to price the Kwid AMT within the range of Rs. 4.21 lakh or below, and it’s likely to cost an additional of Rs 30,000 over the regular 1.0-litre Kwid variant. In the current scenario Renault has hopes to meet a monthly production target of 10,000 units. It also has plans to wide out its outlets from 210 to 270 by the end of this year.

The Kwid had made it successful in the Indian market and has taken the 7th position in the global market in terms of sales volumes in the period of January to August 2016.
