Instagram is testing out a new 'virtual college community' feature

Instagram is surely to-go social networking site/app for teenagers as the popularity of Facebook is declining in teenagers’ demographics. To cater to users, Instagram is currently testing a ‘college community’ feature that lets the user check at other members of their universities. The feature is under trial and available as a beta feature for a few selected users who will be notified to use the feature as and when it is available.

As per the reports, Instagram which is owned by Facebook is testing a college community feature that allows selected users to set their university name, class, and graduating year. This will present a list of all other current students of your university for which, the list will be segregated in terms of class taken. The users will be able to view public stories of the enlisted students as well as send them direct messages, etc.

According to Instagram, this virtual college community feature contemplates the user’s university based on previous posts and comments among other data. One of the bugs that were reported recently was that a user received an update for this beta feature for its university even though the user was an alumnus and not a current student since the feature is limited to current users only.

Also, Instagram will have t work on how it would combat creeps on the platform, although a spokesperson from Instagram has said that there are tools available to flag users as inappropriate. The move came after Tinder introduced a similar feature for ‘college-only’ called as Tinder U. The users who are interested to try Instagram college community feature will have to wait sometime till it is tested and fixed for all its bugs.
