With the 14th remembrance day for the brave Indian Origin lady Kalpana Chawla, who was the part of the fateful STS-107 mission concluding on 1 February 2017, here we are greeted with an exciting piece of the news about yet another Indian-Canadian woman getting picked for the space mission. After Sunita Williams and Kalpana Chawla, Shawna Pandya is going to be the third Indian Woman to achieve this distinctive feat.
A doctor by profession, Shawna Pandya professes to her love for space travel and exploration since a very young age. After this news created repels in the news across the world Shawna went on to make some clarifications about the nuances of the news. She goes on to say on one of her Facebook posts that she is no way affiliated with NASA and would be working on this mission as a part of being selected for the Citizen Science Astronaut (CSA) program.
A general practitioner by profession Shawna has donned many hats as an artist and a trained Taekwondo champion. An all-rounder and a perfectionist by nature, Shawna goes on to say that she is excited for the space flight with eight other astronauts who are all scheduled to take flight some time in 2018.
Shawna has her roots in Mumbai and is proud to see such enthusiasm among the people of India. While she would be inspiring millions of people across the world, with her work, she is all set to work on the various medical science and environmental experiments in space that includes projects like Physiological, Health and Environmental Observations in microgravity (PHEnOm) that forms a part of a larger Polar Suborbital Science in Upper Mesosphere (PoSSUM) project.
The 32-year-old Dr. Shawna Pandya works with the Albert University Hospital as a general physician and has been trained in neurosurgery during the span of her career in medical science. We wish her all the very best for all her future endeavors.
