One of the most popular chat messaging service, Hike has announced Hike Direct feature for its messenger that allows its user to transfer files and messages to their nearby friends without having Internet connection.
“At a point of time in the country where several people are yet to come online, hike Direct will connect users in a never before seen revolutionary way. The feature can work without Wi-Fi or mobile data and allow users to send photos, stickers, files and messages to anyone who is also on the hike network,” said Kavin Bharti Mittal, founder and chief executive of hike messenger. “Files as large as 70 MB can be sent in over 10 seconds”.
As per the company’s statement, the users will have to be in a range of 100 meters to make the connection. After getting connected to each other they will be able to share messages, photos, videos, music and much more on a line of 40mbps.
Mittal further added in his statement, “Today is the day we completely redefine messaging. Hike Direct has been built on breakthrough technology that adds a whole new dimension to messaging enabling hikers to chat and share files with their friends without the internet and without incurring any data charges. One can get speeds up to 40 Mbit/sec when chatting and sharing files through hike direct. Data or no data, hike will always work. It’s incredibly powerful.”
The firm’s technical support member told that the app uses Wi-Fi Direct technology, which allows the two phone to establish peer to peer network connection between two phones. Before using hike direct, one user will have to start a conversation with the other one and opt for ‘Hike Direct’ from the 3 dot menu on top right of the screen. After selecting the option, the app will automatically pair up with the other phone and enabling the device to share messages and files.
To avail the service, android app users can update their Hike messenger to 4.0.6 version from the Google Play Store, for free. However, the iOS and Windows Phone users might have to wait till next year for an update.
