Google Assistant rolled out for Android 6.0 Marshmallow users

Meet Google Assistant

As earlier revealed by Google Inc at MWC 2017, the company has rolled out its Assistant for Android 6.0 Marshmallow users.

Google on Thursday announced that its AI-powered virtual assistant will now be available with a wider range of smartphones running on Nougat and Marshmallow flavour of Android. The firm further stated that the roll out will be initially available for “eligible Android devices” in the US followed by Australia, Canada, and the UK.

The Google Assistant has made its debut with Google Pixel smartphone. Later the tech giant has delivered the feature pre-loaded with LG G6, Moto G5, and Moto G5 Plus.

The eligible device users will not have to install a separate app to unlock the feature, as Google Assistant will be automatically displayed on the handset and will replace Google Search. Users just need to long-press the home button to launch Google Assistant.

“Our goal is to make the Assistant available anywhere you need it. It came to Android Wear 2.0—via new smartwatches—just a few weeks ago and, as we previewed in January, the Assistant is also coming to TVs and cars,” Gummi Hafsteinsson, Product Lead, Google Assistant said.

After getting Assistant on your phone you must try following things by just long pressing the Home button or saying “Ok Google” to get started:

  • What’s my confirmation number for my London flight?
  • Take me to Museu Picasso.
  • Show my photos of sunsets in Tahoe.
  • Do I need an umbrella today?
  • Turn on the living room lights.
