Do you feel dizzy after long computer sittings? It's Cyber Sickness!

Do you feel dizzy after spending sometimes on gadgets like smartphones, more precisely computers? If yes, then you are prone to cyber sickness. According to a new research, just like car sickness or sea sickness people also suffer from cyber sickness which is due to improper coordination between data received by our sensory organs.

While sitting in moving car people feel dizzy because our eyes see objects moving at a fast pace while our body is still in rest which results in improper coordination between data delivered to the brain by eyes and other organs. This further confuses the brain whether we are moving or are at rest and eventually feeling of dizziness develops in the brain.

Researchers explained that similarly while watching movies or surfing net, eyes sense that objects are moving but in actual we are at rest which results in the mismatch of data sensed by different sensory organs. Similar to the car sickness, the outcome here is also the same that makes you feel dizzy. Scientists named it cyber sickness.

Cyriel Diels, a cognitive psychologist and human factors researcher at Coventry University’s Centre for Mobility and Transport in England said that cyber sickness is a natural response to an unnatural environment. He further added that it is a fundamental problem especially for the tech lovers as they spend a lot of time with gadgets and after hours of usage they feel like throwing up as they develop the queasy feeling.

Talking about the symptoms, people with cyber sickness suffer from headache, nausea, sweating, inflammation in eyes, most prominently dizziness and inability to focus. Researchers suggests that it can be prevented by following simple techniques — take breaks in short intervals and move around as it will give rest to your, try to shift focus from what you are doing to something else and avoid long settings on computers and most easily one can look for different object that is stationary at a distance of 20 meters for 20 seconds, it is also called 20-20-20 rule and is good for eye health.
