Drivers who have partnered with the cabs which have been rejected fresh applications protested outside Delhi Secretariat. This includes Uber, Ola and TaxiforSure.

A perturbed driver who was waiting to meet Transport Minister Gopal Rai said that their two square meal has been snatched by these bans. However, Vijender Malik, who had met with Rai said that the government wants the drivers to continue work and if the companies provide the details of drivers and vehicles, they will lift the ban.

When it was found that the companies are not following the statewide ban, the Delhi traffic Police set up accounts on these cab aggregators and the drivers were to be challaned when they reached the pickup locations because Uber, ola and TaxiForSure do not have  license to work in state. This was followed by rejection of Ola and Uber’s request for license.

The  Special Commissioner of Police (traffic) said that these cabs continued to work with an All India Permit which however, allows interstate trips and not point to point within the city limits.

Gagan Bhatia, Uber’s Delhi’s General Manager tagged the rejection of license as unfortunate and confirmed that they would apply again. He said that he seeks to engage in positively guided and constructive conversation with Delhi Government.

The ban was imposed when one of the Uber drivers was accused of sexually assaulting a women passenger. Surprisingly, the ban was not followed and cabs continued to ply in Delhi.

AAP Party has made it clear that they would not accept application for license unless the existing ban is complied with.

Though the ban does not emerge as a solution in this issue, a positive dialog between the two is expected. These technologically driven vehicles cannot be shunned abruptly.
