Mahendra Singh Dhoni joined the team squad efoe the first test in Adelaide.

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni might join the team for the planned first Test, starting in Adelaide on December 9, 2014. Due to suffering from a hand injury, Dhoni was not included in the squad for the first test in Brisbane starting on December 4, 2014. Earlier, Dhoni was supposed to join the team for the second test to be played in Adelaide, which was previously beginning on December 12, 2014.

Following the death of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes certain changes were made in the four test match series schedule. Thus, Dhoni will be able to rejoin the Indian squad before the series begins. According to a new schedule for the test series, the first test will now be held in Adelaide from December 9, 2014, while second test will be played at Gabba, Brisbane from December 17-21, 2014. Third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014-15 will be played as per the old schedule. It will be played in Melbourne on December 26, 2014. Last test is delayed for three days, starting on January 6, 2015 rather than January 3, 2015.

The practice match for India will be started at Glenelg Oval in suburban Adelaide before the first test on December 4, 2014. It will be a two-day match, to be played against another Cricket Australia XI. Dhoni will not be available for this practice game.

Previously, Virat was chosen to lead the Indian team for the first test but with the rejoin of Dhoni, Kohli will help his former skipper as vice-captain of the team. He still has a long way to go for his turn as a permanent captain. Informants in the team management said, “With Dhoni back, he will automatically take over the reigns.” With same view, BCCI said, “That is a natural call. He is the appointed captain, and we do not see why he should not be leading the team.”

Michael Clarke has proved his metal with the temperament shown after the disastrous death of late Hughes, however, his participation in the first test is a big question mark for the Australian Team.
