A new study has revealed that children have got better energy levels than adults as well as endurance athletes. That means the energy levels of children are higher than that of professional athletes. The study also found out that the muscles of the children recover faster than endurance athletes. This indicates that children have got superhuman abilities and can perform better than adults and endurance athletes.
A group of researchers from France and Australian conducted an endurance test to know the energy levels of kids and adults and their muscle recovery rate. For the research, the scientists created three different groups of volunteers. One group consisted of boys between the age group of 8-12 years. Another group was of 12 unfit adults.
The final group consisted of 13 endurance athletes-runners, cyclers, and triathletes who trained at least 6 days a week. The researchers did cycling tests of all the three groups and measured their abilities to produce energy both anaerobically (without oxygen) and aerobically (with oxygen). They also analyzed their heart rates, oxygen uptake rates, and the muscle recovery rates. As a whole, the scientists wanted to study the endurance levels of all the three groups.
The results surprised the scientists. They found out that the children have got higher energy levels and better aerobic fitness than the unfit adults and endurance athletes and also their muscle recovery rate is faster than the adults and the professional athletes. So, to sum up, the scores of children almost matched that of the endurance athletes. Sébastien Ratel, associate professor in Exercise Physiology at the Université Clermont Auvergne, France, said, “Children also recovered very quickly, even faster than the well-trained adult endurance athletes, as demonstrated by their faster heart rate recovery and ability to better remove lactate, a metabolic byproduct contributing to muscle fatigue.”
Actually, the researchers were trying to find out how healthier lifestyle could be incorporated in adults so that they remain less prone to certain diseases as they get older. From the study, they found out that as people get older, they suffer from more diseases and for that their physical inactivity is to be blamed. So, the researchers have suggested that children should maintain their muscle fitness as they grow into adults so that they remain in good health.
