The Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) has giving Anurag Kashyap the good news that Bombay Velvet may get to keep the word Bombay in Bombay Velvet. The controversy arose when singer Mihir Joshi was asked to beep out the word Bombay from a song. Mumbai was made the official name of the film city in 1995 and since then it has been a law for people to say Mumbai and not Bombay.
“If a film is a period drama, if it is set during a time when Mumbai was called Bombay then we may consider retaining the old name for the city. However, in the contemporary context, ‘Bombay’ won’t be allowed at all,” Mr Nihalani said and explained that they needed to follow the laws and make sure that Mumbai be used in all places.
Bombay Velvet is set in the backdrops of the late 70’s where one man fights against all odds and to make it big. The film is supposed to be Karan Johar’s debut film in which he is going to be introduced as the chief villain. The film stars the chemistry between Ranbir and Anushka, who will be playing the leads in the movie.
Raveena Tandon has also been rumored to be a part of the film, but she had denied it saying that she did a guest appearance for his friend Anurag Kashyap, but a lot of scripts changed after that so she wasn’t sure whether she will be in the final edits of the film or not. But now she has confirmed that she has made it to the final cut and will be a part of the film.
The film is decided to be released in May 2015 although nothing can be said with surety. We indeed will just have to hope that it releases soon, and we would like to see Bombay Velvet with its every original piece retained and intact.
