An Australian climbed on a dead whale as it was floating to come on shore. It was already attacked by other large whales. On Monday he apologized for his this act and said he was an “idiot”.
The man dived off his boat and climbed on the humpback that has already gained attentions of other larger whales, south of Perth in Western Australia on Saturday.
The 26-year-old, wanted to be known only by his first name Harrison, said “(I was) out on the boat with the boys and one of my mates said it would be pretty funny if you go out surf the whale, so I did it.”
Harrison said that firstly he was not aware of the fact, but later it was made to his notice by his friends that the whale was surrounded by sharks. As soon he came to know this he jumped off and came on boat.
“They were too busy chomping on the whale so it wasn’t too bad,” he said of the sharks which included a great white.
He said he would perform such stunts in future as this could make him cost his life.
He said “I’ve done it, I don’t need to do it again. Definitely it was a stupid act, didn’t mean to disrespect anyone.”
“Mum thinks I’m an idiot: dad’s not too proud either.”
“It is very risky to enter the water around that type of large food source because even if you can’t see sharks, it’s highly likely the carcass is attracting them from a long way away,” Tony Cappelluti, fisheries department told.
“Irrespective of some type of adrenalin rush, or whatever you’re trying to get out of performing that type of act, it’s highly risky,” experts told our reports.
