Two weeks ago, OnePlus released the third developer preview for Android Q 10 via its OnePlus Forums which is an unusual way to make updates available except the OTA updates. Anyways, coming back to the DP release, OnePlus might have unofficially released the Developer Preview 4 as spotted by users on its forum.
Unlike other Open beta program updates where users would find the blog article on the respective update on OnePlus’s Forum, the Android Q 10 Developer Preview 4 has been seen as links in the comments section only and thus, it is an unofficial release while the Chinese manufacturer hasn’t yet announced the update officially.
For those who are willing to proceed either from stable Android Pie to Android Q DP4 or from DP3 to DP4 will have to visit the given link on OnePlus Forum’s Android Q DP3 section where they can find the link to the latest developer preview 4 in comments or they can wait for a few days to get the update officially on the Forum itself.
Once available, users will be able to download the file which can be around 2GB at the moment and then use the Software Updates section of the Settings app to update the zip package and install the update that could take a few minutes. Once it is done, a reboot is recommended post which, the users will be able to use Android Q on their OnePlus 6, 6T, 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro before the official version launches sometime later this month.
Note that Android Q DP4 is still having some stability and lagging issues similar to any beta updates. The changelog also stated how the Google Pay app may not work as well as the under-the-display fingerprint scanner may not work directly within pressing the power button first as well.
There are of course some system functions improvements although the bugs are likely to get rectified in the next release candidate for sure. OnePlus has been one of the few brands that roll out updates quickly under its OxygenOS UI which is also considered one of the fastest custom ROM based on stock Android. You need to visit OnePlus Forums that you can find on Google and check out the section where the forum discusses Android Q DP3 where the unofficial link to DP4 is available at your disposal.
Once upgraded to the Android Q DP4, the users can always retreat to DP3 if needed or they can retreat to Android Pie 9.0 as well for which, they should have the zip package concerning the same and repeat this given procedure to upgrade or rollback the firmware.
- Launch Settings and navigate to System >> Software Updates.
- Tap on the gear icon on the top-left corner and select Install File where you can select the file from your drive whichever you want to upgrade or rollback to.
- Install the file and reboot so that all the changes are properly affixed and it is done.
