Somalia’s capital city Mogadishu suffered a bomb attack by Al-Shabaab, the Somalia-based Islamist militant group linked to al-Qaeda. This attack has been planned to kill the government officials staying at the Central Hotel, where the bombs blasts happened. This blast incurred a loss of 25 lives and left 40 people wounded. It is the second blast that took place in the capital within the same month.
The 25 killed includes the 2 suicide bomber or not, has not yet been determined. The incident went as follows. A car loaded with explosives broke illegally into the Central Hotels compound and had two suicide bomber inside it. It blew off and managed to kill 25 people. The blast happened on Friday, when the guests were attending Friday prayers at the hotel’s mosque.
The blast claimed the life of two lawmakers and deputy Mogadishu mayor among other civilians. Al-Shabaab has taken responsibility for the same and said that the attack was meant to be for imposing their laws in Somalia.
In the previous attack that happened on January 22, three Somali nationals were killed when a suicide car bomber blew himself up at the gate of a hotel where the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was staying.
“I condemn this attack. These people who are trying to disturb the peace in Somalia won’t succeed and won’t be able to deter the government from establishing peace in Somalia. They can try if they wish but I assure, they will fail miserably.”Somalia’s president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said.
There have been reports that 12 people suspected of the crime have been arrested on Saturday. Among the twelve, there are two hotel owners in connection with the blasts. This is a big news and may help Somalia in getting to the root of the Al-Shabaab organization and destroy it completely.
