Just after a day when Canalys listed Micromax as a top vendor in Indian Smartphone market, another technology research firm Counterpoint said that the South Korean giant, Samsung still rules the sales.
“Micromax has remarkably ousted Samsung to become the first domestic vendor to take the top spot in the Indian smartphone market, the third largest in the world,” on Wednesday, Canalys reported. “Addressing these important segments has helped it (Micromax) take 22% share of the total smartphone market in India, ahead of Samsung at 20%.”
Meanwhile, Counterpoint suggests that in Q4 last year, Samsung led the smartphone and feature phone market with market shares of 27 percent and 16.2 percent respectively. However, according to the report, Micromax holds second position with a market share of 19.5 percent and 14.4 percent.
As per the Counterpoint report, “Micromax maintained the second position in both overall and smartphone market, closely following Samsung. Micromax smartphone shipments grew 75% Y-o-Y but declined sequentially.”
Besides that, Intex comes in top five smartphone vendor rankings leading Lava and Lenovo (Including Motorola) with seven percent of market sales, whereas Lava and Lenovo (including Motorola) had 5.1 percent and 4.7 percent share of the Indian smartphone market respectively. “The competition for the third?fifth spots in India smartphone market will be a close race between the fast-growing smartphone brands like Intex, Lava, Lenovo (Including Motorola), Karbonn, Xiaomi, Sony and others,” it said.
As TeCake earlier reported, Counterpoint Technology Market Research is a research and consulting company based in Hong Kong, which suggested in August 2014 that Micromax is the ‘best seller’ for total mobile phone sales in India, including smartphones and feature phones.
In addition to it the Indian smartphone market experienced a hike of 90 percent in annual sales, including 21.6 million of units shipped that makes India world’s third-largest smartphone market in the fourth quarter, last year. However, China is leading the list with slightly higher amount of handsets sales.Tags: India, indian smartphone market, micromax, samsung
