OnePlus One Cyanogen - TeCake

The OnePlus One Indian users will now continue to get OTA updates to their devices from Cyanogen as the legal tussle between Micromax and OnePlus has now come to an end. OnePlus today announced that the cases have been withdrawn and the legal proceedings against the firm have been resolved through mutual consent.

“For reasons that were made public earlier, we had to take a legal recourse to protect our rights in light of the proceedings initiated by Micromax,” the firm said in an official statement.

“Five months hence, we are happy to confirm today that all legal proceedings have been resolved and the cases have been withdrawn through mutual consent. We hate donning suits and ties anyways. To make things sweeter, we would like to re-assure our customers and fans in India that our flagship phone, the “OnePlus One” will continue to receive OTA updates from Cyanogen in-line with our users in markets around the world.”

Five months earlier, Micromax, the largest smartphone seller in India alleged that OnePlus was infringing the exclusive rights of Micromax to use Cyanogen software. As, the co-founder of the company, Rahul Sharma has signed an exclusive contract with Cyanogen to use the OS for its subsidiary product, Yu Yureka.

For the same reason, OnePlus has stopped the sales of its product in India. “The month of December last year was a momentous occasion for the OnePlus family. We launched our flagship phone, the “OnePlus One” much to the delight of our consumers here in India. And then we unexpectedly got hit by a legal snag! For reasons that were made public earlier, we had to take a legal recourse to protect our rights in light of the proceedings initiated by Micromax,” said Vikas Agarwal, General Manager – India, OnePlus in a statement.

Refreshing the case, the Indian smartphone manufacturing giant, Micromax has gone to court asking for the ban on sales of OnePlus One smartphones in India, before the launching of Yu Yureka smartphone.

However, the firm has recently launched its own OxygenOS in February this year, which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, in reply to the Cyanogen and Micromax deal. The OxygenOS is a custom ROM that offers features like music controls, double-tap, screen-off gestures and shortcut for the camera and flashlight.

In addition, the OS also allow the users to swap in between on-screen and hardware navigation keys with few simple options. Oxygen OS has been built with an aim to provide the user with full customization; an individual can tweak and twist the features in this phone as per the choice.

OnePlus has also added new quick settings feature that can help you add, remove or organise the tiles with just a tap on the button.

So, as of now, Indian consumers can now buy the flagship killer device, OnePlus One to get latest Cyanogen experience and without fearing about the updates.

Besides, this Micromax is giving hints about launching of Yureka’s successor by teaser videos. The new device could be Yu Yuphoria that is expected to be launched on May 12.
