As earlier expected, online streaming king, Netflix has launched its services in India. The company has announced that the monthly rates for the services start from Rs. 500.
Apart from the Basic plan, which is priced at Rs. 500/month, there are two more plans available for the user as Standard and Premium that are priced at Rs. 650 and Rs. 850, respectively. In addition, users will get a subscription for first month absolutely free as a trial.
The service was launched during a keynote by Co-founder and Chief Executive Reed Hastings at CES 2016 at Las Vegas yesterday night. With the announcement in India, the entertainment platform is currently available in 130 countries around the world.
“Today you are witnessing the birth of a new global Internet TV network. With this launch, consumers around the world, from Singapore to St Petersburg, from San Francisco to Sao Paulo, will be able to enjoy TV shows and movies simultaneously…no more waiting,” Hastings said.
He further added that by using Netflix, users can get access to their favourite TV shows, latest movies to watch whenever, wherever and on whatever device they want. As of now, over 70 million of users from 190 countries are watching 125 million hours of content.
“Till recently, video streaming services were pegged back due to the inadequate data infrastructure in India. With telcos rolling out 4G services pan-India, 2016 will be a year for growth of video consumption,” Hungama CEO Siddhartha Roy said.
By availaling the Netflix subsciption, users will get access to original series such as Marvels Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Narcos, Sense8, Grace and Frankie, and Marco Polo.
Moreover, the firm is planning to launch 32 new and returning orignal series, 24 orignal feature films and documentries, stand-up comedy specials and 30 orignal kid series.
The service yet to be launched in China, though the company continues to explore options for providing its service. Also, It is not available in Crimea, North Korea and Syria due to US government restrictions on American companies operating there.
Since the Netflix has been born in 2007, it has expanded worldwide from Canada then to Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.Tags: Entertainment, India, internet, NetFlix, telco, Video
