The China-based electronic major, Lenovo is planning to launch 50 new service centres across India by Diwali. These centres will cater exclusively to Lenovo and Motorola smartphones for a better and reliable after sales support, Mathur said. “We will increase this to 100 by the middle of next year,” he said adding that these will be based on the franchise model.
Head of Product and Marketing at Lenovo Smartphones in India, Anuj Sharma explained the need of a strong after sales channel and said, “From a service perspective, we have grown rapidly adding more number of devices and overall service cost in India is a lot high but then it is part of the buying experience. Although, in the recent past people have been ignoring it but somewhere down the line it does play a role.”
“It’s not just buying the product but life of the product and there it makes sense to have proper service centres, spread out service centres, and if you combine the Lenovo and Motorola stores you get a better reach,” Sharma further added.
In addition, the company has revealed that it has sold around three million 4G smartphones in India in last one year, under the both Lenovo and Motorola branding. The company further added that the emerging demand of high-speed Internet across the country is increasing the market of 4G enabled devices.
Lenovo India, Director Smartphones, Sudhin Mathur, “We are witnessing a strong demand for 4G devices. We have sold over three million 4G devices so far.” Out of the three million handsets, six lakh models from Lenovo and Motorola were cumulatively sold out during the five-day sale at Indian online retail space, Flipkart.
According to a report by IDC, 26.5 million devices were shipped to the India shores in Q3 2015, up 44 percent on a year-on-year basis. Lenovo and Motorola mutually holds a six percent of market share and ranks fifth in the ‘tally’, after Samsung, Micromax, Intex and Lava.Tags: lenovo, Motorola
