Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) is all set to launch the much-awaited bike, CBR650F in India. The bike will be launched in July this year, and the crazy fans have to wait for five more months to get a closer look at the motorcycle. The new Honda CBR650F was glimpsed in the Auto Expo 2014 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The only bike that is currently in this segment is the Kawasaki Ninja 650R, and it will face direct competition from the Honda CBR650F.
According to Keita Muramatsu, HMSI, President, and CEO, the new Honda CBR650F will be assembled locally to promote the “Make in India” concept adopted by the government. The Honda CBR650F is one of the 15 new motorcycles that are to be introduced in India this year, which include seven brand new models equipped with new engine and chassis. Initially, the manufacturing of the bike would be around five percent localized and will be brought in the country as a Complete Knock Down (CKD) unit. The localization would increase in a phased manner as said by Mr. Muramatsu.
Rumor says that the mid-weight sport tourer is expected to retail for about Rs 8 lakhs (ex-showroom), which is comparatively high as the direct rival, Kawasaki Ninja 650R is already available for Rs 5.35 lakh (ex-showroom).
Honda CBR650F features an inline four-cylinder engine, which has 649 cc displacement, and the engine is liquid-cooled. The engine churns out a maximum power of 87 bhp at 11,000 rpm, which is 16 bhp more than the Kawasaki Ninja 650R and a maximum torque of 62 Nm at 8,000 rpm. All this power is transferred to the wheel through a six-speed transmission.
The bike has its cylinders canted 30 degrees forward for a better center of gravity and also to provide a better position for air intake ports. The bike also features 16-valve DOHC cylinder head with direct cam actuation and PGM-FI fuel injection with 32 mm throttle bodies, thus improving its efficiency.
Honda CBR650F is excellent for touring and is very comfortable for long rides. The ride is a perfect mix of fun-to-drive and economical.Tags: automobile, Bike, CBR, honda
