The German carmaker, BMW has announced the launch of its new hybrid sports sedan, the i8 on 18th February. The car is said to be launched by BMW India’s brand ambassador, Sachin Tendulkar. The car was earlier unveiled by Sachin Tendulkar himself in the 2014 Auto Expo and it immediately received immense love from the BMW geeks.
Progressive driving pleasure, as BMW says is to refer to the powerful electric motor that churns out 129bhp of power, and an additional 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 228bhp. Combining the two, and we get a whooping 357bhp of total power, which is completely insane on the road.
The small and compact looking car is a beast on the road, which does a 0-100km/hr drag in under 5 seconds that put many other expensive sports cars out there to shame, and is highly efficient as well. For this acceleration, we need to give credits to the small engine size and its aerodynamic body shape.
The i8 features BMW’s TwinPower Turbo 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which is first of its kind and as claimed by the company, is extremely free-revving and delivers up to 320 Nm of torque. It’s the most efficient car by BMW, consuming just 2.1 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 49 g/km.
The car also features BMW eDrive technology, which lets the driver use the electric motor at speeds of up to 120 km/h in the COMFORT and ECO PRO modes. In the sports mode, the car runs purely on combustion engine, suiting the driver’s needs accordingly.
This futuristic car is expected to be priced at Rs 2 crore (on-road), making fans drool all over it.
