Audi has planned to add a new A3 Hatch into its collection for Indian consumers. The A3 hatchback, which is already on sale in many countries, will be launched next year in India. The A3 saloon, which was launched in September this year, is the most inexpensive car from Audi in the market and had been wildly successful till date. The arrival of the A3 hatchback will mark the new cheapest from Audi presumably.
The hatchback will inherit most of its parts from the saloon, which includes engines and gearboxes. It will be powered by the same engine that powers the saloon; the petrol model will be powered by 1.8-litre TFSI turbo unit that is having maximum power output of 180bhp and peak torque of 250Nm. While the diesel variant will feature a 2.0-litre TDI turbo engine that churns out a maximum power output of 143bhp and peak torque of 320Nm. The fuel economy on A3 saloon was found impressive for diesel at 20.38Km/l, while the gasoline variant returned 16.6Km/l; the fuel economy of the hatchback is yet to be tested for Indian region.
Currently, all the variants of A3 hatch are Front Wheel Drive, so we cannot expect Quattro on the hatch as well. The key features and the equipment will also be similar to the A3 saloon, which includes Daytime running lamps, integrated turn indicators on ORVMs, Bi-xenon headlamps, panoramic sunroof and a 7-inch multi-media infotainment screen, while, the Safety Features include 6 airbags (driver and its co-occupant, side and curtain airbags),ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, ESP and Traction control.
The A3 Hatch has rivals even before its launch, which include BMW 1 series and theMercedes Benz A Class. Both the Beemer and the Merc hatches are loved by the Indian luxury car buyers due to their sleek and sporty appearance.
The Hatch is expected to be priced at Rs 20 lakhs (ex-showroom) which is lower than its rivals, making it the most affordable luxury hatch in India.
