Arguably India’s best all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh has disappointed cricket fans and selectors with his performance after successfully fighting cancer. Man of the Series in the ICC World Cup 2011, Yuvraj Singh did not get success in making a comeback for India-Srilanka Series. He played the last ODI in December 2013 and was included in Indian squad in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2014 matches. For the first time, the stylish batsmen openly accepted that his international career might get finished. However, he has not lost desire and hope to come back in Indian-side soon.
Yuvraj Singh said to Wisden India, “Of course, there is a possibility that I may never play for India again. I have considered that. But there is also the possibility that I might play for India again, and as long as I believe that I can come back, and I have it in me, I’m going to keep pushing myself.” When asked about not being in Team India, he said, “There will be anxiety because the World Cup is close by, and there aren’t too many opportunities in domestic games in the lead up. However, eventually, what can you do? I can only prepare as well as possible, try and take the opportunities I get. The young guys in the Indian team are doing well. Let’s see how it goes.”
Yuvraj Singh is the only player who has played an important role in ICC World Cup, ICC old T20 and ICC Under-19 World Cup. Being one of the most experienced player in Indian cricket team, he has played 40 Tests; 40 T20s and 293 One-Day Internationals.
At present, India has a large pool of young talents in the middle order waiting to grab their chances; this healthy competition has also resulted in a great success in recent series played by India. However, while being a senior batsmen who can absorb pressure and lead to victory single-handedly, Yuvraj Singh, provides strength to spin department, and above all, he is an outstanding fielder, one of the best masterpiece India has ever produced. The World Cup hero successfully defeated the cancer, but in the process, he gained weight and lost his fitness that affected his career badly. Although the maestro is facing criticism, his hope to get a place in India team is still alive.
“There have been times when I have achieved my goals. Moreover, at other times I have failed. However, after an experience like the one I had, it is very difficult to set goals. However, definitely, a comeback to the Indian team is a goal. Whether that is going to happen or not is not in my hands. All I can do is prepare well, to the best of my potential, go out there and bat, bowl and field,” he said.Tags: India, yuvraj singh
