Saina again ranked World No. 1 in BWF women's singles ranking

Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal regained the number one rank in the BWF women’s singles rankings. China’s Li Xuerui slipped to third place according to the latest list released on Thursday.

Saina, the first Indian women ace shuttler to be on the top spot after winning the India Open Grand Prix Gold earlier this month, had lost her position to second place after losing semifinal in the Malaysia Open Super Series.

However, Saina did not play last week’s Singapore Open Super Series but she climbed in the rankings after Xuerui also skipped this tournament. Saina is now followed by England champion Carolina Marin (Second Place) and China’s Xuerui (third place) in the international rankings.

Saina came up with tremendous performances this year, after being victorious in the Indian Open and the Syed Modi International, she ended on second place in the Yonex All-England Open, where she defeated in the final to Marin. She also made into semi-finals of the Malaysia Open where she lost to her nemesis Xuerui.

Saina had a difficult time due to injuries and poor form in June 2014, but then she made a daring decision to change her coach from P Gopichand to Vimal Kumar. The harsh decision brought her form back, and 25-year old shuttler succeeded to come on the top of the rankings.

Moreover, P.V. Sindhu came out of the top 10 and moved to 12th position this week after losing three spots. In the men’s rankings, K Srikanth maintained the fourth spot, while P Kashyap retained his 14th rank following to his semifinal finish in the Singapore Open. HS Prannoy, who finished as a quarterfinalist in Singapore, also lost one place to end up on 15 in BWF men’s singles rankings.

However, the battle between those three world class women shuttlers — Saina, Marin, and Xuerui should be fun to see in coming future.
