Indian women shuttler Saina Nehwal and men shuttler Kidambi Srikanth, who won bronze medal in Olympic, reached their respective singles finals in the China Open Series Premier on Saturday. Chinese Liu Xin got defeated in 47 minutes with a score of 17-21, 17-21 by women’s World no. 6 Saina Nehwal. On the other side, World no. 15 Germany’s Marc Zwiebler retired against Men’s World no. 16 Srikanth when the score on the scorecard was 21-11, 13-7, in the favour of the Indian side at the Haixia Olympic Sports Center.
Saina reached her second Super Series final in 2014 after winning the Australia Open in June. In $700,000 China Open Super Series, Saina will now fight against Japanese World No. 35 Akane Yamaguchi and will want to win her second title in 2014. The Japanese Yamaguchi defeated South Korean fifth seed Yeon Ju Bae by 21-10, 25-23 in the other semi-final to set her first match against the sixth seed Saina.
Liu seemed better than Saina at the start of the game as Saina took her time to grip her rhythm back. Liu took a 7-4 lead at the start and kept Saina under pressure for a short time. However, after that, 24-year old Hyderabadi made a comeback in the game and levelled her score at 11-all. Then, Saina moved on to get a score regularly to give tough competition in the first-game. Chinese World No. 17 Liu yielded more points frequently. However, Saina never missed her chance and clinched the game quickly.
In the Second game, it was a tight contest for them. At start, Saina conceded a 12-9 lead but Liu raised her game and managed to equalize the score at 14-all. She also took a two-point lead against Saina at that time. However, after that, Saina gave a rapid active commotion of cross-court smashes to take a six-point lead and took the game in her favour. Saina took a 2-0 lead in the match with winning the second game and fixed her for final in the China Open Super Series.
Later, Germany’s Zwiebler fought against Kidambi but he struggled a lot and 21-year old Kidambi comfortably got lead by 1-0 in his match by score of 21-11. In the second game, the german backed off from the game with the score of 13-7 in favour of his opponent Srikanth and this decision lead Srikanth close to this title of China Open Super Series. Srikanth had also got the 2013 Open Thailand Grand Prix Gold.
