Finally, Indian Badminton League second edition will now start in April, 2015 after many unquiet turns and uncertainty about its endurance. The second edition of the IBL that is the league of six-city was guessed to start in September this year, but it was postponed till January. Finally, the league will be played in Hyderabad on April 12, 2015 and league will end with a final at Mumbai on May 2, 2015.
Informants in Badminton Association of India (BAI) told that the conflict between its president Akhilesh Das Gupta and Sporty Solutions, who have authorities to organize IBL, has nearly turned off the league. It was found out that the president wanted to take Rs 50 crores as a bank guarantee from Sporty. Due to timely attention of Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal last week, the matter had been figured out, and the IBL was given a nod to be started in January. However, due to the reservations showed by a few international players and broadcasters, the league has been kicking off to April. After lengthy discussions, Sporty Solutions has finally admitted giving Rs 9 crore as a guarantee to make safe the interests of Players. BAI source also told, “They had come up with a proposal for January but it wasn’t possible to shift the Syed Modi Open so late and hence April is the best possible period to hold the event.”
It was also found out that the Delhi and Mumbai team’s owners has been changed as Delhi suffered with failure on player payments last year, and their agreement has been removed. A Mumbai Company reportedly purchased Mumbai Masters, who was possessed combinedly by a Sunil Gavaskar, Tollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna and Chamundeswaranath. However, Gavaskar is likely to remain in the Board probably.
