Continuing their winning streak in the World Cup, Team India defeated the minnows Ireland with 8 wickets, today. After restricting the Irish team for 259/10 in 49 overs, India very swiftly chased the target with more than 13 overs to spare. Shikhar stood tall and made the competitive total look a piece of cake with his brilliant century.
The luck wasn’t with the skipper Dhoni as the Ireland won the toss and chose to bat. Opener WTS Porterfield (67) and PR Stirling (42) gave a solid start by scoring at 6 runs per over in the mandatory powerplay. Ashwin gave India the first breakthrough at the score of 89 in the form of Stirling. Irish batsmen were able to add three more runs on the scoreboard, suddenly Raina came with the second breakthrough when he bowled EC Joyce (2). Then came the most dependable Irish batsman NJ O’Brien, who went on to score 75 runs. At once Ireland was on the driving seat with 206-3 in 38 overs and were looking to surpass the 300 runs mark, however, the flurry of wickets started and they lost remaining 7 wickets within a span of 53 runs. Although Indian bowlers gave too many runs at starting of the innings but they pulled it back as the inning came to an end. Shami was the highest wicket taker and took 3 wickets, however, it was Ashwin who controlled the cruising run rate and took 2 wickets at the key moment of the match.
Chasing the competitive total, opener Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan paved way for India’s win. They both made a 174 run stand and almost sealed the victory. Rohit was the first to depart and scored 64 runs. Dhawan too didn’t survive long after Rohit’s departure and however he scored 100 run in just 85 balls with 5 huge sixes to decorate his innings. After both the openers were gone, there wasn’t much left in the match, and Viral Kohli (44) and Rahane (33) made an unbeaten 70 run partnership. Kohli struck the four to led India to the victory in the style. India has nearly sealed the top spot in

As of now, if everything goes well and Men in Blue avoids any upsets then Team India should reach semis comfortably without much pain to bear. Moreover, with this win India registered the record 9th consecutive win in the World Cup, besides it is the first time that India has bowled out the opposite team in 5 consecutive matches.
