India defeat pakistan

Maintaining the winning record, India defeated the arch-rival Pakistan by 76 runs and started their campaign in style. On the back of Virat Kohli’s century defending champion scored 300 runs for loss seven wickets that Pakistan failed to chase and were bowled out for 224 runs in 47 over, far behind the target. With this win, India improved win record to 6-0 against the neighbours.

India started the match on a positive note after winning the toss and elected to bat first relying on their strength. Opener Rohit Sharma (15) and Shikhar Dhawan (73) didn’t let down the decision of their captain and gave a fluent start but soon Sharma gave his wicket as a gift. From their Kohli and Dhawan took on the charge and went on to make highest run partnership (129) for any wicket against Pak in the world cup. While it seemed that Dhawan will score a century but confusion in 30th over resulted in his wicket in the form of run out. There was a change in the batting order and Raina came at number four, he grabbed the opportunity and went on to score blistering 74 of just 56 balls. Meanwhile, dependable Kohli scored his century.

India was on the right path to score well ahead of 300 runs, suddenly the flurry of wickets started in the death overs and they were restricted to 300 runs in 50 overs. Still India managed to put a decent score in the opening match.

Pakistan hasn’t ever chased a score bigger than 262 in the World Cup, and the record lives today. There is always a lot of pressure in a high-voltage match against India, and required rate of above 6 added to it. At once Pakistan looked good when they had nine wickets in hand till 18 overs but India bowlers turned the dice and suddenly they were 103/5 with three wickets falling in a span of eight deliveries. Pakistan, only managed to put 224 runs on the scoreboard. Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq was the highest scorer with 76 runs.

Indian bowling that faced heavy criticism recently clicked in the match and came up with a fantastic show. Mohammad Shami was a delight to watch who took four wickets in the match.
