MIT students unveil two robots; set to participate in National Robocon '16

A team of 33 engineers named ‘RoboManipal’ from the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) has revealed two robots — Hybrid Robot and Eco Robot in the workshop of the college. With the launch of the robots, the team has made it clear that they are all set to participate in the National Robotic Contest-2016.

National Robocon will be held in Pune from March 3 to March 5 in which 120 teams from various colleges including IITs and NITs will participate. The winner of the event will represent India on the bigger level — ABU Robocon, largest robotics competition in the Asia. Teams from 20 countries will participate in ABU Robocon which will be held in Bankok, Thailand later this year.

RoboManipal has worked really hard and students from different streams have spent countless hours in developing the two robots, said team leader Satish reddy. “We have been working on the robots for the last six months and six months prior to that we all studied a lot on robots. It has been a wonderful team effort and we have all worked tirelessly and selflessly,” Mr. Reddy said.

Team manager Nikita Mishra who is also a second-year mechatronics engineering student said that both the robots are made in compliance with the theme of ABU Robocon — ‘Clean Energy Recharging the World’.

While explaining the functionality both the robot, she said that Hybrid Robot is manually controlled and it powers the autonomous Eco Robot. Collective weight of both robots is around 19 kg while the cost of production is around Rs 19 lakh. RoboManipal has invested a lot in developing the two robots and they hope that they can win National Robocon with ease. Seeing the past record, expectations are very high with the RoboManipal as they have performed exceptionally well in past tournaments.

Asia – Pacific Broadcasting Union is organising the event where it gives chance develop robots that can work for the benefit of humans.
